Shark Bites are the latest fantasy football news & NFL updates. has been in business since 1999. And when we started, redraft was the dominant form of fantasy football. Check out what we've learned about this most basic form of fantasy football along the way.
After an ugly opener, Seahawks QB Geno Smith bounced back with a strong showing in a Week 2 overtime win over the Lions. Smith completed 32 of 41 passes (78.0%) for 328 yards (8.0 YPA), two TDs, and 0 INTs. Both of the scores went to WR Tyler Lockett, including a 6-yard game-winner in overtime. This looked like the Geno Smith we saw last year, accurately distributing the ball to all levels of the field. The matchup and game environment certainly worked in his favor in this one. But Smith gets two more beatable defenses in the Panthers and Giants the next two weeks, before a Week 5 bye.
Seahawks HC Pete Carroll said Wednesday that WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba (wrist) will play vs. the Rams this weekend. JSN is just over two weeks removed from wrist surgery but "hasn't said a peep" about the issue and has "no hesitation," Carroll said. We'd try not to use the rookie in Week 1 fantasy lineups, but he could quickly emerge as a viable starter. Smith-Njigba's availability is also a boost for QB Geno Smith.
The Seahawks and QB Geno Smith have reportedly reached an agreement on a three-year, $105 million contract extension. The 32-year-old finished the 2022 NFL season with Pro Bowl honors and the Comeback Player of the Year Award after he spent several seasons serving as a backup. It'll be tough for Smith to maintain his fantasy production from last year (QB9 in points per game with 17.9), but this deal locks him in with the likes of WRs D.K. Metcalf and Tyler Lockett for the foreseeable future. We've bumped up Smith to QB18 in our dynasty rankings as a result of this news. He'll be a quality QB2 in superflex leagues. As for Metcalf and Lockett, their dynasty values are relatively the same. Continuity at QB does eliminate some of the risk associated with Metcalf in dynasty formats if anything. We don't yet know the details of Smith's contract and if the Seahawks would be able to maneuver out of the deal should the franchise choose to explore younger options at the position. But for now, it's great news for a player with a great story.
Seahawks QB Geno Smith told Sirius XM NFL Radio on Saturday that he’s in talks with the team on a new contract and that things are “looking very good.” We’ve been assuming Smith would re-sign, as the move just makes sense for both sides. We’ll be tracking the process, of course. If you’re jumping into early best-ball drafts — or managing your dynasty rosters — treat Smith as though he’ll start for Seattle in 2023. The length of his new contract should help clarify how long he might stay beyond that
Seahawks QB Geno Smith tallied 25 completions on 35 attempts with 2 TDs and 1 INT in Saturday's Wild Card loss vs. the 49ers. The veteran led a stout effort all game but unfortunately came up short. WR DK Metcalf found himself on the receiving end of both of Smith's scoring passes in addition to 10 catches for 136 yards. Smith expressed his desire to return to Seattle in post-game comments. After leading a Seahawks team to a postseason bid in the aftermath of a trade that sent QB Russell Wilson to the Broncos, it would be a great story should Smith return.
Speaking after Saturday’s Wild Card loss, Seahawks QB Geno Smith expressed a desire to finish his career in Seattle. It’s a good reminder that the 32-year-old is on track for free agency. If Seattle opts to get younger, note that they have the 5th overall pick from Denver and the Russell Wilson trade. Our hunch, though, is GM John Schneider will make a good-faith effort to re-sign Smith.
Seahawks QB Geno Smith threw for just 215 yards on 25-of-40 passing in Saturday's loss to the Chiefs, with 1 TD and 1 INT. His 74.5 passer rating was his lowest mark of the year. WR D.K. Metcalf led the receiving with 7 catches for 81 yards on 9 targets. RB DeeJay Dallas checked in next by catching all 6 of his targets for 32 yards. WR Marquise Goodwin went catch-less among 4 targets. TE Noah Fant caught the team's only TD among 2 receptions for 12 yards. Seattle might get better weather in Week 17 but will face a much tougher defense in the Jets.
Seahawks QB Geno Smith struggled through most of Sunday's loss to the Panthers, including a pair of INTs. He nearly tossed a 3rd, but CB Jaycee Horn narrowly missed getting a 2nd foot down in bounds. Smith did wind up with a solid 264 yards and 3 TDs passing, the last coming with just 16 seconds to go and his team down 13. Seattle's top 3 WRs all scored, with Marquise Goodwin posting the top line: 5-95-1 on 6 targets. D.K. Metcalf went for 5-71-1 on a team-high 10 targets. Tyler Lockett caught 5 balls for 60 yards and a TD, marking his 6th straight game with a score. Seattle hosts a tough 49ers defense on Thursday night.
Seahawks QB Geno Smith (right shoulder) is not listed on the final Week 14 injury report. He was added on Thursday and limited in practice, but Smith was upgraded to full participation on Friday. It all suggests that the shoulder issue won't be a factor vs. the Panthers this weekend.
Seahawks QB Geno Smith was added to the injury report and limited in practice on Thursday with a right shoulder injury. We don't have any other details right now, but a QB dealing with an issue with his throwing shoulder is certainly worth monitoring. We'll get another update on Geno tomorrow.
Seahawks QB Geno Smith threw for 367 yards in Sunday's win over the Rams, setting a new career high for yardage. WRs Tyler Lockett and D.K. Metcalf each had big lines. Lockett delivered 9-128-1 receiving on a team-high 12 targets. Metcalf added 8-127-1 on 8 targets. TE Noah Want claimed the 3rd of Smith's TD throws, catching 4 balls for 42 yards in all. Week 14 holds a decent matchup with the Panthers.
Seahawks QB Geno Smith went 27-of-37 passing in Sunday's OT loss to the Raiders, compiling a season-high 328 yards and 2 TDs. Smith also threw an INT and lost a fumble. He targeted WR D.K. Metcalf with 40.5% of his attempts (15), completing 11 for 90 yards. No other Seahawk caught more than 3 passes. Tyler Lockett hauled in 3 of 7 targets for 68 yards and a TD. RB Travis Homer caught the other score. It was Smith's 3rd game this season with 300+ yards. he added 22 rushing yards on 5 attempts.
