The Giants are signing QB Russell Wilson to a one-year deal. ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that it's worth "up to" $21 million, with $10.5 million of that guaranteed.
Schefter: "Another QB up high still could be an option."
NFL Network's Tom Pelissero: "The Giants own the No. 3 pick and also added Jameis Winston. But to be clear: Russell Wilson heads to New York as the starter."
We all (besides Giants fans) hoped to get Winston's fantasy upside on the field as the Giants' new starter, but that was never the likely outcome.
Signing two veteran QBs with starting experience also suggests the Giants don't see a QB at 3 who would be ready to start early this season.
Neither Wilson nor Winston is a long-term answer, of course. So don't be shocked if the Giants draft a QB. But the insurance gives them the flexibility to wait beyond early Round 1.
Wilson's an upgrade over last year's starting trio of Daniel Jones, Tommy DeVito, and Drew Lock. That can only help Malik Nabers and his band of WR mates who barely matter for fantasy. But we're not significantly changing the group's outlook.
The Giants ... still need to figure out how to plan for the long term.
