Rapoport: Justin Fields Likely To Start Week 1

Justin Fields Headshot

Steelers QB Justin Fields is "more likely" than QB Russell Wilson to start Sunday's opener vs. the Falcons, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport says. A final decision on Wilson's status hasn't yet been made, Rapoport adds. Wilson is scheduled to go through a workout on Saturday. But Rapoport notes that Wilson didn't do much in Friday's practice, while Fields took all the first-team reps.

2024 Fantasy Football Impact

This is an aggravation of the calf injury that sidelined Wilson for much of August, so it makes sense that the Steelers would play it safe with the 35-year-old.

We're now projecting Fields to get the Week 1 start, which resulted in all of the Steelers' skill-position players falling in the rankings. Pittsburgh will likely throw less with Fields at the helm. And Fields figures to siphon carries from RBs Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren.

On the plus side, Fields' rushing ability makes him a much more exciting fantasy option than Wilson. Fields ranks seventh among QBs in fantasy points per game over the past two seasons.
